Everyone still within their data cap? Great. Try some of these links:

  • A very thoughtful discussion by Albert Lai about trying to cut the cord and then going back to cable. I’m not sure we’re talking about the same kind of “cord cutting”– his seems more like an early 2000s version– but it’s definitely worth a read.
  • Slate’s Matthew Yglesias explains the strategy behind Netflix’ efforts to create original content.
  • Amy Chozick from the New York Times summarizes Amazon’s huge content deal with Viacom which brings lots of kids programming to Amazon Prime.
  • Here’s a nice little article on “3 Great Ways to Enjoy Your Own Media on the Roku 3″. The second way described in the article (Plex) was mentioned in our recent post on DVRs and will be discussed at length in later posts here on cord cutters blog.
  • The Tekzilla guys talk about the new version of Handbrake at about the one-minute mark of this video. Handbrake is awesome software for Mac or PC that allows you to convert video to a format playable on your Apple TV or Roku. Like Plex, you will be hearing a lot about Handbrake in future posts.

Happy weekend.
